Mortensen Woodwork of Union City hosted the AWI
Georgia Chapter on November 10, 2006.

Union City, GA
– The fall meeting for the AWI Georgia Chapter was held on November 10th
at Mortensen Woodwork. Greg Kasten, General Manager, gave chapter members an
inside tour of the companies daily operations. Highlights included an
overview of a 60,000 square foot facility with two dedicated supply lines
for casework assembly, state of the art moulding equipment, and a custom
plywood shop in house. Over 40 people attended the tour and chapter meeting
that followed at the Green Manor Restaurant in Union City. At the chapter
meeting, new officers for 2007 were elected.
Outgoing President John Lunday, listed the
accomplishments of the chapter for 2006:
- Winter meeting held at Georgia Tech with a tour of
the Advanced Wood Products Laboratory
- Partnership with Skills USA including a $1000
scholarship for Josh Wainwright winner of the Georgia competition
- Spring meeting held at the SCMI Group in Duluth,
GA which featured demonstrations of their woodworking equipment
- Summer meeting held in conjunction with the IWF at
the World Congress Center in Atlanta; the AWI National Safety Committee
attended the meeting
- Plant Tour of Mortensen Woodwork
Newly elected President Mark Riles thanked
John Lunday for his service to the chapter. The chapter will focus on
architectural education with AIA and CSI in 2007 along with another plant
tour.
