On November
12th, the AWI
Georgia Chapter toured the
Weyerhaeuser MDF and Particleboard plants in Bennettsville, South
Carolina.
Russ Lux of
Weyerhaeuser Atlanta
hosted the group first at the
Corporate Eastern Headquarters
in Fort Mill, South Carolina
and then at the plant. The informative
tour gave a
first hand experience on how
MDF and particleboard products
are created. The raw materials used in both processes are recycled from
other Weyerhaeuser pulp and plywood plants.
The highlight of the tour was the state of the art particleboard plant that
has been in production since 2001.

The quarterly chapter meeting was held and new officers for
2005 were elected.
There was time to socialize with chapter members on the bus trip (and some
card playing led by Cody Matherne).
Special thanks to Sweetwater Lumber and Peach State Lumber Products for
providing transportation. Weyerhaeuser catered dinner at the meeting and
lunch after the tour.
